On the blog today I want to talk about my upcoming design workshops. Tickets went on sale last week and I'm super excited. They’ll be starting early August in my new studio in beautiful historic Guilford.
These workshops have been carefully crafted to enable my students to achieve success. I hear from way too many clients who have put off their home projects for 10 plus years because they just didn't know where to start. They didn't have enough knowledge of the design process and how to get things started. They were full of anxiety and fear about making mistakes and just really confused. They didn't understand their style and what their ideal home looked like. So whether it's lack of knowledge or confusion and anxiety - they put off making the decision to start and they waited and waited and never achieved anything.

We're talking about our homes - these are our sanctuaries, where we spend more time than anywhere else in our lives. This is where we raise our children, where we share time with friends and family. I know these sound like cliches and appear in every builder’s advertisement. But there's a reason why - they're actually true!
If you don't gain the knowledge you need and the understanding of your own personal style, so you can create a picture of what success looks like - you too are going to put off creating your dream home environment to live your life and the lives of your family.

Time goes really quickly and as we get older, even more so. If you’ve been putting off your home project – think about how much time has passed that you could have been enjoying your home, feeling thankful and inspired every day that you made the decision to take action and you did it right! The confidence you’ll feel inviting friends and family over – rather than constantly apologising or feeling insecure, you’ll actually WANT to invite people over. Not to show off – but just share your joy, share the beauty.

The reason why I run these workshops is to teach you the design essentials you need to gain the confidence and vision to actually go forward and make the changes needed. The best way I can do this is by teaching you my own design process that I use with clients. This is a process that I've refined over many years and from my background in both interiors, building design and urban design - it's a unique process.
We start from the inside in Part 1, then work towards the outside in Part 2 - we move back and forth, inside and outside - to create a completely holistic and harmonious design vision for your home.

This past week, I've received calls from people wondering if this is relevant if you're looking to buy a home and I say absolutely yes! No different to building a new home. If you don't know what your ideal home style is – inside & out – how do you know what you’re looking for? If you don’t know what a great floorplan looks like, or how to create furniture layouts that actually work – how do you know what’s good design and if it’s going to suit your needs? I could go on and on. How can you spend all that money - something we only do a few times in life – if you know so little?
Over the coming weeks I'll be talking more on my social media channels about how these workshops are relevant for a range of home projects – whether cosmetic, renovating, building or buying new.
